N5 Retailing

This qualification provides and introduction to retail and the employability skills that have been identified as key by employers in this industry and others. The course aims to:

  • develop transferable skills of employability
  • develop team working and problem solving skills
  • provide opportunities to develop a range of Core Skills including communication and customer care
  • encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and development
  • help build learners’ confidence

 

This course will include an additional qualification in Barista skills.

  

The Retailing qualification has 4 areas of study: 

Working in Retailing: carrying out practical activities in a realistic working environment. Pupils will be involved in running pop-up events or involved in hospitality at school events as part of the Barista qualification.

Maintaining, Storing and Replenishing Stock: having the right product in the right place at the right time, in the right quantity and at the right price! Pupils will learn how to manage stock and the role of the supply chain, as well as the legislation around pricing and health and safety. This knowledge will be applied while carrying out practical activities.

Satisfying Customer Needs:  pupils will learn how to responding to customer needs, maximise sales and the legislation the impacts the retail environment.

Planning and Implementing a Retail Event: pupils will plan, run and evaluate an event, working effectively with others and developing their communication, organisation and planning skills.


Assessment: Pupils will be assessed on each unit throughout the course. All four units must be passed in order to achieve the course award.
